RINK PRIORITY
I was asked a question by a long term member of the club regarding rink priority when it comes to Internal Competitions vs “Social/casual bowling.
In the past if people turned up to play an internal match and when they drew a rink that was being played on “socially” - the “ social” bowlers would be asked politely to move rinks. Also at this time there was a rink booking list in place.
With the abolition of this book coupled with the way the green is being managed( rinks are rested/ closed at short notice by the Greens Officer as required in his opinion- which will not be questioned) it is no longer possible to pre- book a particular rink in advance.
This worked well last season with no reported problems. I am aware that on a roll up afternoon( held Wednesdays & Saturdays at 2pm) there was an Internal Competition match arranged for one of those afternoons but starting after 2pm.
This is a case of an unseen occurrence where a previous system doesn’t match with what can now be offered. In the Rules - point 5 covers unseen circumstances and who can deal with them. The decision made that day by a member of the sub - committee to ask the Internal game to pick from the vacant rinks available is to be adhered to for the rest of the season to ensure a consistent approach is taken should the circumstances occur again.
If you are arranging games for Wednesday & Saturdays and you want to have full choice of rinks can I suggest you start before 2pm or arrange to play after 4pm.
The competitions were played in very good spirits last year and have started in the same way this season. All participants common sense and flexible approach to date has been much appreciated.
As happened at the end of last season, ideas on how to enhance the experience/ amend the rules of these Internal Competitions can be given at the meeting following this year’s AGM.
Many thanks
